Those two black connectors you're holding, which you say are coming from the driver's and passenger's GLI seats, are the 10-pin T10a on the driver's side (see GTI's wiring diagram), and T10b on the passenger side. The rear window demister is not working on my Passat I've been told it's the body control module and expensive but wonder if it could be the relay. It seems crazy.
